Major Initiatives | Recognition Grants | Other Grants

The Kansas Health Foundation targets its grants in two ways. We work with established systems, such as state and local health departments, universities and school districts. And we work with communities, where diverse voices and organizations can jointly tackle complex health problems.

Most grants are developed proactively as part of major initiatives designed to address our long-term strategic plan. Very few unsolicited grant requests are funded, but we are always open to any nonprofit organization that is doing innovative work that fits within our mission to improve the health of all Kansans.

Major Initiatives
These major initiatives are approved by the board of directors and represent the largest percentage of grant money given each year. Developed strategically and proactively, these initiatives are the key driving forces for the Foundation to achieve its mission. For a complete list of recent initiatives, please click here.

Recognition Grants
These grants expand the Foundation's support to a broad range of health-related organizations throughout the state. While the majority of the Foundation's funding is through invited proposals, the recognition grants program is designed to fund unsolicited requests, and is specifically targeted for grassroots groups doing innovative and meaningful work that fits within the Foundation's mission. For more information about recognition grants, please click here.

Other Grants
In addition to our major initiatives and recognition grants, which together form the bulk of the Foundation's yearly giving, other grants awarded in 2008, are listed here.

Although we receive many requests from individuals, these types of grants do not fit within our strategic vision. For more information on potential sources for individual grants, please visit www.foundationcenter.org.

The Foundation accepts letters of inquiry from nonprofit organizations that believe they have a program that fits within the strategic plan of the Kansas Health Foundation. One-page letters of inquiry should include a summary of need, an explanation of a plan to address that need and estimated costs.
